Caversham House
Wedding Photographer
Garden ceremonies, a grand staircase built for portraits and a chandelier-lit reception in the heart of the Swan Valley. If you are saying your vows at Caversham House, here is how your day looks through my lens.
See If We're a Fit →Grand old gardens on the banks of the Swan River.
Caversham House has been welcoming weddings since the 1960s, and the bones of the place go all the way back to 1835. Six acres of manicured Swan Valley gardens, topiary walkways and fountains sit around a heritage house full of French crystal chandeliers and a wisteria-draped pergola. It is a full day of backdrops without leaving the grounds: a garden ceremony on the lawn, portraits on the staircase and through the Colonnade, and a reception that glows once the sun goes down. As a Perth wedding photographer it is one of the grand old favourites of the Valley, and it photographs like one.
Getting there: Caversham House is at 141 Caversham Avenue, Caversham WA 6055, in the heart of the Swan Valley, about 25 minutes north-east of the Perth CBD.
What to expect
Your day at Caversham House, moment by moment
A garden ceremony, rain or shine
Your ceremony happens out on the lawn, framed by the gardens and the old house behind you. And because Caversham keeps the Garden House on hand as a wet-weather room, a grey forecast never has to become a grey wedding. I once shot a day here that started at a 90 percent chance of rain and finished in full sun, so trust me, the plan holds either way.
The Colonnade's topiary walkway
A long walkway runs through perfectly clipped topiary beside the Marquee, a natural aisle of green that makes for a beautiful entrance and some of the cleanest, most symmetrical portraits on the property. It is the kind of backdrop that does half the work for you.
The Hidden Garden and the river
Tucked away on the grounds is the Hidden Garden, a private space of terraced gardens and a waterfall with the Swan River beyond. It is quiet, green and a little bit secret, which is exactly what you want for the couple portraits where it is just the two of you.
A staircase made for portraits
The grand staircase, the pillars and the sandstone architecture of the main house are a portrait photographer's dream. Soft light, strong lines and a bit of old-world grandeur, so your couple portraits feel timeless without you having to pose stiffly for a second of it.
A reception under the chandeliers
When the sun drops, Caversham comes into its own. Whether you are in the Main House under the French crystal chandeliers by the working fireplace, or in the Marquee with its silk ceiling and built-in dance floor, the rooms glow warm all night and photograph beautifully right through the speeches and the first dance.

Naila & Kusal
A Friday morning ceremony moved to Caversham House for the rain: a vintage Mustang, clear umbrellas, happy tears in the Garden House and a dash up the checkerboard steps.
